I got seriously keen on cycling after entering the Northland and New Zealand Secondary Schools Triathlon’s and Cycling events last year. Although I did not have much experience or training I was up for the challenge and they were a lot of fun. After the events I set the goal of returning again this year to seriously compete so I started a rigorous training campaign to prepare for this.
So far this year my results have been:
1st Place Under 19’s and fastest over all time Mangawhai Triathlon
1st Place Under 19’s and fastest over all time for sprint distance Whangarei Triathlon
1st Place Under 19’s and fastest over all time for individual and teams events Northland Secondary Schools Triathlon
7th Place Under 19’s NZ Secondary School Triathlon
1st Place Under 20’s and fastest over all time Northland Secondary School Cycling Champs
Cycling is fun no matter what level you are at and its surprising how much faster you become with some regular training and racing. It’s been great having Avanti Plus Whangarei to set me up with the right bike and give great advise and support. Last year I joined the Marsden Wheelers Cycling Club and it has been great, giving me training and racing experience. We have a lot of fun and some great competition.
My next events are to compete in the NZ Secondary School Cycling Champs held in July and September.
