Another update from Fiona
Great stuff Fiona we are all very proud of you....Go Fiona !!!
Howdy from Forrestville
Did you know there are snakes in Canada, yep, i went for a ride yesterday on forestry road and got a fright when i almost ran one over on the road, it moved, so i did a u turn and took some photo’s. The real tourist, i was a bit stiff and sore from my TT, we realised today it was probably from dropping my TT bars a bit lower so my back and hammies and calves have been a bit sore.
I was still sore today and was cramping a wee bit before the start of the road race today. We had 5 laps to do, on the first big climb i got dropped as there was a good attack by the stronger riders. I was left behind, i caught up to 3 lasses and could see another Ausie way up the road. The 3 lasses wouldn’t work with me so off up the road i went, chasing, chasing, chasing, getting closer anmd after a full lap and a half of fighting i finally caught the Australian. We worked together for a bit and caught an American that had been dropped from the front bunch. On the final lap they both dropped my on the big hill, i chased and chased not one to give up and caught them with 5km’s to go. I was in pain all the way and wasn’t about to give up. There was a sprint for the finish line and i managed to beat the Australian and ended up with another 6th place.
I was grinning from ear to ear, it’s been 3 years since i did a road race as i always just do time trials.
The locals were amazing, loads of cheering, they were loving it, more racing tomorrow with the tandems which is always great viewing. there are 33 mens tandems so safety will be important on some tight corners.
Tomorrow night is the closing ceremony and dinner, i also have to pack bikes and gear for a early checkout then the 9.5hr dive back to Montreal, don’t you love travelling. Have had no time for shopping or sight seeing, no shops here anyway and not much to see except forestry and mills.
I hope this finds you all happy and well
See you all back in NZ
Thanks heaps for all your support, unfortunately i’ve got the bug and am keen to do more, this trip has been organised well and we have had great staff.
Smiles n hugs
Fi
