Marsden Wheelers Race Results Sat 24 April
Unfortunately most of our juniors had other activities on Saturday but luckily a good contingent of seniors turned up to boost the numbers. There were two events – a short 3km time trial followed by a 16km or 32km road race.
Master 6 rider Noeline took out the short course event by riding very strongly in both the time trial and the 18km road race. Below is a photo of Rachyl who competed in the short course event showing a couple of characteristics of successful roadies – determination and excellent position. Rachyl won the junior clothing prize and was second on handicap in the short course.
There was some hot competition in the longer course event. Stu was fastest in the time trial with Kevin MacKenzie only 6 seconds down. Who was going to win the road race? Three riders missed the time trial but added some spice to the road race. The acid came on during the hillclimb and unfortunately Stu lost contact with the lead group of four riders. It came down to a sprint finish with new rider Brent coming in first. Fastest on GC was Kevin Mackenzie but fastest on handicap was Jim who rode strongly. Jim won the clothing prize for the fastest senior on handicap in the long course event.
