Marsden Wheelers Update

13th October 2008

Kia ora everyone

For a small club we have had some exceptional results lately – see below.

Our team for the Club Nationals at Labour Weekend in Wanganui is raring to go - Mathew Zenovich U15 Boys Time trial and Road race, Ben Evans and Lee Johnstone M1 Men RR, Fiona Southorn M2 Women TT and Ruth Jarman M4 Women TT.

Recent results:

International

Fiona represented NZ at the Beijing Paralympics on the track and in road time trial. She is currently riding in the UCI World Track Cycling Masters in Sydney.
Katherine Anton won NZ Duathlon Champs and was training in France for World Duathlon Champs in Italy. Unfortunately Katherine suddenly became ill and spent time in a French Hospital instead of competing. She has recovered and is back in NZ training again.
Ben placed 18th in the semi professional “Tour of New Caledonia”

National

Ben had top 10 placings in Auckland 1000 and Taupo Napier Classic. Currently placed 10th in Open grade of BikeNZ National Points series.
Lee – podium at Waikato-BOP Centre Champs (daughter was sick night before Auck Champs! so DNS)
Mathew – 2nd Auckland Champs after puncture

Local

Ben won 129km and Elliott 70km “Hell of the North.”

Secondary School

6 of our juniors rode the NZ Individual Secondary School Champs in September.

Mathew – U15 Boys 2nd overall (1st time trial, 4th hill climb and 3rd criterium)
Elliott, Roger, Nadya, Tim and Sam didn’t place in this highly competitive event.  Tim summed it up – “that was real fun” after enjoying the rough and tumble of the criterium.

http://www.bikenz.org.nz has results and up-to-date information on the Club Nationals.

Or talk to these riders at the next club event. I am sure they will be only too happy to share their experiences.

“My mother and I have a difference of opinion.  She thinks I should go see a shrink; I think I should buy a new bike.” Alex Obbard – cyclist.
