Northland Colours for Going.

25th August 2011

The Avanti Plus Whangarei rider Harley Going was given his Northland colours on Saturday after he cleaned up in the cyclocross race held at Barge park. Going was on a three minute handicap and made short work of it as he powered his way to victory catching up to everyone and passing them with ease. His team captain Paul Fancy showed early signs of form but struggled over the hurdles towards the end and claimed “this is just stupid, what plonker thought of this!!”.With a bitterly cold southerly blowing, the field of some 34 riders had to push themselves beyond there limits of endurance and pain , with many completing 10 laps during the 45 minute race.
In the woman’s race , the Avanti Plus rider Libby (Chubby)Hale was competing against runaway leader DJ Gillming and hoping to peg back some valuable points ,but she has left her run to late in the season. Hale won from Gillming however Gillming has the series in the bag and was pleased with her 2nd postion.Tayla Going, sister of Harley Going, romped home in 3rd spot with a big smile on her face.
A special presentation was held after the race where Going received his Northland strip . “I am so proud to be a Northlander and can not wait to wear it” he exclaimed.
The next cyclocross race will be held at Pohe Island on the 3rd of September and it will be a social event which will be held at night under flood lights just to be a little different .So if you want to have fun then grab yourself a partner and come on down as it will be a relay format so you can rest between laps. Bring your laughs and sausages for the BBQ afterwards remember the best costume wins a special prize….and we all love cross dressing!!!!!
